Clare got into circus after attending a local Circus Skills evening class, where she did Juggling, Stilts and Tumbling and then remembered a childhood ambition of hers to be a Tightrope Walker. A Tightwire was provided which Clare took to immediately. Further training was recommended, which led her to Circus Space (now National Centre for Circus Arts) where she started her Aerial training, in Static Trapeze and then Corde Lisse.
Clare began performing and creating routines a year later and soon developed a strong interest in teaching Aerial, which has been her profession since 1994. She was a senior trainer at Circus Space for 14 years and currently teaches at Aircraft Circus and My Aerial Home, in addition to Flying Fantastic, where she has been Lead Trainer since since our opening in 2011. Clare’s international work includes teaching in Colombia, Norway and Spain.
Clare specialises in Aerial Rope, Silks and Static Trapeze, training people at all levels; from professional and vocational, to the recreational novice. She also teaches Hoop, Aerial Sling and Tightwire. Clare also specialises in creating pieces for performance and has provided training and creative input for many Circus Arts companies and artistes. Many of Clare’s former students have gone on to become notable international performers and many also now run their own schools.
Clare enjoys ‘Making things work’, creating new ways and seeing students progress in ability and understanding, and artistic collaborations to create original work. Apart from being a professional Circus Practioner, Clare enjoys many things, including music and photography.
