Airplay – Aerial for physical performers

Calling all physical performers, actors, dancers, theatre practitioners, puppeteers, clowns… ever dreamt of taking your performing to new heights? this one week course will be running in Spring 2018 and offers you the opportunity to get to grips with the basics skills of aerial and put them into practice, encouraging you to explore, experiment and play and finally coaching you through the process of creating a unique performance piece, bringing together your existing skills and your chosen aerial discipline.

Elevate your performance

The week will consist of daily technique classes focussing on the core disciplines of hoop, silks and silk sling, providing you with the basic moves and transitions you need to create dynamic aerial sequences. We’ll look at how basic moves can be translated across different pieces of equipment and explore using equipment in a variety of ways (e.g. spinning, swinging, use of different heights and ways of rigging) that can open up possibilities for theatre. Guest teachers will provide unique perspectives on approaches to creating theatre in the air. Tasters in harness and acro-balance will lend yet more tools to your circus kit and complementary sessions in conditioning and flexibility will help get your body in shape for aerial and provide you with an array of physical training techniques to take away with you.

The week will culminate in a performance for family and friends, professionally filmed and suitable for adding to a show reel or simply to keep as a reminder of the week.

The course is suitable for professional performers and those currently in training or working towards a career in performance. No prior aerial experience is necessary though a good level of physical fitness is highly recommended as the course is physically demanding. Please feel free to contact us if you wish to discuss this further.
