Teacher training - Aerial foundations

How would you feel about defying gravity on a daily basis? Are you looking to swap your 9-5 for something more flexible? Or supplement it, with a new exciting extra something that can inspire others and make them healthy and happy? You might already teach but want to add aerial, or additional aerial disciplines to your repertoire. If this sounds like you, then this short four-day course in Aerial Teacher Training could be just the ticket.

This course has been purposely designed to meet the needs and demands of teaching foundation level aerial skills to a growing and diverse market.  Over the four days, you will learn how to teach the basics in silks, hoop, trapeze and sling with a focus on correct body alignment, injury prevention and spotting techniques. You will learn how how to run and manage a class, including lesson planning and basic rigging.

We’re passionate about delivering a comprehensive training which will equip you with the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality, professional Aerial classes to a variety of students. 

The course has been independently endorsed and accredited by Activ IQ.

Course content and pre-requisites

This is suitable for people who have experience of aerial and would like to deepen their understanding of a range of aerial disciplines with a view to teaching, or existing aerial teachers who would like to gain teaching experience in other disciplines. The course consists of the following:

- The fundamentals of Silks, Hoop, Trapeze and Slings - how to execute a range of beginners moves and break them down to teach them. This includes adaptations and progressions, as well as tips for spotting and ideas for sequencing.  
- Lots of practical experience with a focus on teaching in partners and groups 
- How to structure a comprehensive, fun class
- Lesson planning - how to create interesting and achievable classes.
- How to deliver fun effective warm-up and cool down
- Health and Safety
- Teaching Methodologies to make Aerial Accessible
- Rigging, aerial equipment and how to look after it

Course Pre-requisites
Adequate proven experience of aerial
Basic anatomy & physiology. Our recommended course reading material is Applied Anatomy of Aerial Arts by Emily Scherb.

Some teaching experience in another field would be helpful but not essential

Please note: This is a CPD course and does not attempt to teach high level circus moves, or teach the detailed anatomy of the human body (this is part of the pre-requisite)

The 4 day course runs from our Peckham studio with sessions running from 9.15 - 4.30pm daily.
