Costumes for Aerial

Choosing a costume for an aerial performance is an important part of creating a captivating and memorable performance. When it comes to performing, we want it all; something that is comfortable, suits the character/theme, is suitable for the equipment and, obviously, unique - this is not an easy task.

Here are some things to consider when selecting a costume:

Comfort: You want to choose a costume that is comfortable and allows for ease of movement. Avoid anything too tight or restrictive.
Fabric: The fabric of your costume should be breathable and durable. It should also have some stretch to allow for movement.

Fit: Your costume should fit well and not be too loose or too tight. If it’s too loose, it could get tangled up in the equipment, and if it’s too tight, it could restrict your movement.

Style: The style of your costume should complement your performance and the music. It should also fit the theme of your performance, if there is one.

We encourage you to be experimental - Don't be afraid to mix and match different patterns and textures to create a unique look. For example, you could pair a solid-coloured leotard with patterned leggings, or layer a sheer mesh top over a sequined bodysuit.

Colour: The colour of your costume should be bold and bright so that it stands out against the background. However, be careful not to choose a colour that blends in with the apparatus.

Safety: Safety should always be a top priority. Make sure your costume doesn’t have any loose parts or anything that could get caught on the equipment.

Accessories: Consider adding accessories to your costume to enhance your performance. However, make sure they’re not too heavy or bulky, and that they won’t interfere with your movements.

Lighting: Consider how the lighting will affect your costume. Bright lights can make some colours appear washed out, so you may want to choose a brighter colour to compensate.

Audience: Keep in mind the audience you’re performing for. Make sure your costume is appropriate for the venue and the type of event.

Overall, your costume should enhance your performance and help tell your story. It should be comfortable, safe, and visually appealing.
